""The Gift" was created amidst a sleep-deprivation experiment that I did a year ago, where I tried to sleep as little as possible (about 1-2 hours a night) for 30 days to see how it would affect my paintings and overall creative process. Throughout the process, my paintings got a lot looser and more expressive, and more "fantasy-driven" as I was literally seeing things. The Gift" was one of the last, and the most expressive paintings to come out of that series. And yes, I'm still tired." - Alex Pardee
