Mike Joyce was born in the hot summer of 1972 in Troy, New York rendering him Troy-Bilt, just as reliable as the companys signature rototiller. Thirty years later Mike founded Stereotype Design in New York City, specializing in projects for the music industry. He has designed CD packaging for established artists and upstarts, from Iggy Pop and Natalie Merchant to Fall Out Boy and Robbers on High Street. Mike has also designed countless t-shirts for bands like The Strokes and Hidden in Plain View, and hes produced books for Tony Hawk and KISS (for which he bitterly receives no royalties). Stereotypes work has been featured in publications such as IdN, Print, Communication Arts, HOW, and Plus 81; exhibited in the Art Directors Clubs first Young Guns show; and selected for the Permanent Collection of the Library of Congress. In 2004 Mike gladly returned the favor to the ADC by co-chairing Young Guns 4. He also teaches typography and design to third- and fourth-year students at the School of Visual Arts and may be the only graphic designer with absolutely no interest in collecting sneakers.
