"Men's faces with lonely expressions painted all over a red wall; their faces covered with rough brush strokes and drips; a large tag name, TWIST, prominently displayed.This is the typical style of the San Francisco-based artist, Barry McGee. His work follows in the tradition of Mexican mural painters. At the same time, his pieces express the sorrow and loneliness of urban dwellers, people familiar with the street life. In the past few years, McGee's reputation has become established in the art world. However, he is still actively pursuing street work, which he distinguishes from work for museums and galleries. As an example, he tagged his name, Twist, on billboards at bus stations, faithfully working in the tradition of the graffiti artist -- the work is completed quickly and the artist scats. In the walled rooms (museums or galleries), he, as an artist who was educated in art school, presents high quality murals, paintings, and drawings. He also works in the installation style, making use of different objects. His conceptuality and style are rarely seen among other graffiti artists, and this has made McGee's art and his existence special. This sort of two-sidedness is deeply ingrained in McGee's character. That's what's most striking and rare about this artist."
