"This shirt is all about the Afro-Beat sound that was pioneered by Fela Kuti; a sound that combined political oppression, ancient African polyrhythms and American funk. Lagos, the capital of Nigeria became ground zero for this sound as many were fed up with the oppressive practices of their totalitarian government and decided to start bands and play music as a form of rebellion. The music from Lagos at that time was funky, filled with a sense of deep longing for better times that translated to some of the freshest sounds to grace 101 Apparels ears. This shirt has the background of Africa, congas and bongos, and with the text Funky Lagos in the foreground." - 101 Apparel

101 takes inspiration from various genres and cultures, showing influences from classic designers of the 60's & 70's such as Alexander Girard, Milton Glaser and others. Combined with an extensive background in music related design, the outcome shows a unique positive energy, color balance and treatments.
